Wow, it's the first day or 2017! Perfect time for me to start the blog I’ve been procrastinating about for months. I'll warn you now this is me blabbing, mostly about being a fitmum...because that's what I am. If you want kale smoothie recipes I'm not the chic for you but there are plenty of blogs out there for you. If you want honest experience and tips for surviving stressful times and little people, then subscribe and keep reading.
Have you ever gotten skinny from a stressful period in your life? Or, have you ever gotten fat from stressful period in your life? I’ve done both a few times over now and I’ve finally cracked the Di Vinci code! Emotional eating!!! Emotional eating, or not eating, is a bitch. It can affect your confidence as well as your waist line. So here are my top three tips for kicking it to the curb:
1. Let go of food labels. Food is neither good, nor bad. It’s just food. It has no power over us. I used to refer to a monster inside me that made me binge or stopped me from eating when I needed to. Nope, no monsters here anymore, I killed that sucker! I stopped thinking of any food as good or bad and just ate when I was hungry. Shocking idea I know!
2. That leads to tip 2 – eat when you’re hungry. If you’re bored, go for a walk or clean the house or do some yoga. If you’re stressed, go for a walk or clean the house or so some yoga. If you’re low in energy, go for a walk or clean the house or so some yoga…do you see where I’m going with this? There are a million productive things you can do instead of eating when you’re not hungry.
3. Make peace with any issues you have with your <insert family member(s) here>. For me, it’s issues with my mother and father and brothers; the trifecta! You don’t need to hear the gory details but understand that holding onto the negative sh*t will never serve you well. So, as my dear friend has recommended for years: write, read, rip and burn. I’ve done this process many, many times and every time it helps me enormously.
So give “write, read, rip and burn” a try:
So, let go of food labels, eat when hungry, and make peace with any family related emotional issues you have. Maybe mastering these three things will take all year. Who knows? But I can promise you this, food does not hold the power…you do. And the new day, of a new year is a fantastic place to start (as long as you DO START).
Welcome 2017; we’re gonna kick your butt,
